Popular and cultural celebrations

Alfaroleiros

An exhibition of popular pottery is held in the first week of August in the Luís Seoane Park in Santa Cruz, attended by craftspeople from all over Spain. Crafts, tradition and nature come together to offer the visitor a sample of the heritage that we have received from our ancestors.

Various cultural activities take place simultaneously with the fair, such as concerts, pottery making, etc. A visit to the fair can be rounded off by calling at the Os Oleiros Museum.

Carnival

Carnival is celebrated in several parishes, but the celebrations that take place in Oleiros are particularly outstanding: the “Entroido dos vellos” (Carnival of the Elders), that is dedicated to the town’s Elders. There are theatrical performances, costume and dance competitions, and music, all these accompanied by sweets and deserts typical of this festivity: filloas (pancakes), orellas (thin fried ear-shaped sweet pastry)...
